History

Zedsen sensors are the brainchild of our Chief Technology Officer, Dr Hrand Mamigonians, and are the result of over 30 years of experience working on cutting edge sensor technology. The company’s three founders – Dan Honeywell, Paul Honeywell and Hrand – came together in 2014 and pooled their collective business and scientific expertise to realise the far-reaching potential of sensor technology.

Sir Charles Masefield

Chairman

Sir Charles is an eminent British engineer. After being awarded a master’s degree in Physics and Engineering at Cambridge University, Sir Charles began his career as an aerospace apprentice rising to become Commercial Director of Airbus. From 1993-1998 Sir Charles was Head of Exports within the British government and knighted for his contribution to increasing British exports.

From 1999-2007 Sir Charles served as Vice Chairman and then President of BAE Systems, overseeing annual sales of $35 billion. In 2000, Sir Charles joined the esteemed ranks of the recipients of the US ‘James Doolittle Award’ for services to world aerospace, becoming the first non-American to do so. More recently, Sir Charles was the Chairman of Microsulis Medical which pioneered microwave cancer ablation, now in widespread use in cancer hospitals around the world.

After graduating with a degree in Mandarin and Business, Dan formed Honeywell & Partners, delivering impactful storytelling programmes to emerging and globally recognised brands. Dan has progressed to lead Zedsen from day one securing investment, forming an expert team and generating commercial relationships with renowned academic institutions and exceptional clients. Zedsen has thrived under Dan’s leadership, transitioning from a genius ‘garden laboratory’ idea, into a highly innovative technology company.

Dr Hrand Mamigonians

Chief Technology Officer

Hrand is one of the foremost world experts in sensor technology with around 30 years experience in this field and as a visiting professor to a number of colleges, Hrand is renowned for his encyclopaedic knowledge on sensor technology. 

After completing his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of London (UCL), Hrand applied his expert knowledge of electronic design and manufacture to commercial applications including the invention of a range of baby monitors for Tomy - selling over 8m units in Europe and Australia - and the invention of the  digital tablet, now widely used by designers the world over. Throughout Hrand's distinguished career, he has been granted over 40 UK and international patents for his innovations.

Paul Honeywell

Director

Paul is a business leader with 30 years experience, focused on advising CEO and Executive-level leaders to drive innovation and change in their companies. Paul has also built many companies from the ground up to create global enterprises and worked up to CEO level to lead multi-national companies with notable success.

With significant experience at board level, Paul has worked with over 100 organisations in almost every sector across the world, including Coca Cola, Hilton Hotels, Intercontinental Hotels, Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, Rolls Royce, NCR, Philips, Lloyds Bank, Ernst & Young, British Petroleum, British Airports Authority, Nokia and Boots, as well as senior public sector government positions, health and police authorities.

 

Dr Aslam Sulaimalebbe

Dr Aslam Sulaimalebbe

Head of Research and Development

Aslam is an accomplished, award-winning PhD Electronics engineer. After gaining a 1st class honours degree and subsequent PHD in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Aslam has built a strong scientific career including working for Gatan UK and on projects for the world's largest consumer electronics company. Aslam's diligent work has allowed him to master a number of skills in electronic engineering disciplines, including novel carbon nanotube technology, in-vivo blood glucose monitoring, spectroscopy and characterisation.

Aslam has a key role at Zedsen managing all scientific and engineering team members, along with the integration of multiple disciplines required to create disruptive solutions. 

Matt James

Matt James

Head of Operations

Matt brings over 20 years of digital-development, team-building and programme-delivery experience. He has worked in the defence, telecoms, automotive, financial technology medical and publishing industries. In his role as Head of Project Management, his diverse background is ideal for engaging clients and technology partnerships and delivering projects and solutions for the numerous industries that Zedsen is associated with.

Dr Anastasios Kanakis

Dr Anastasios Kanakis

Principle Firmware Engineer

Since gaining his PhD in medical fields focusing on wireless and wired glucose monitoring and neonatal ultrasound simulation training system at Sheffield, Anastasios has won multiple awards in global microcontroller design challenges. He is a keen Blitz Chess player and a big World of Tanks fan.

Armen Mamigonians

Armen Mamigonians

IT & Test Engineer

Armen is currently responsible for IT support, data collection and analysis, laboratory prototype testing, equipment deployment and instrumentation technology support in the Zedsen laboratory. With 18 years’ experience in the IT and security sector, Armen has worked with a broad range of clients from the United States Intelligence Community to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre in New York.

Vivekram  Sivasilam

Vivekram Sivasilam

Senior Simulation & Test Engineer

As an accomplished expert in simulation engineering, Vivekram has experience working with blue-chip organisations such as Jaguar Land Rover and Bombardier as well as a range of projects across the healthcare and automotive sectors. His role as Lead Simulation Engineer involves designing new sensors alongside hardware and firmware testing.

Kenny Murdoch

Kenny Murdoch

Senior Hardware Engineer

Kenny brings to Zedsen over 15 years’ experience in several technology industries, including work on CO2 and YAG lasers, designing infrared security devices, and designing gaming machines. His extensive career has also seen him work on repairing ultrasound generators, armed forces communications and anti-hacking finance security.

Daniel Polec

Daniel Polec

Senior Hardware Engineer

Daniel joined Zedsen with a BSc in electrical and electronics engineering and decades of experience as a multidisciplinary engineer. He is hands-on engineer and an accomplished designer or printed circuit boards, who can often be found fine-soldering and setting up a complex array of oscilloscopes or taking part in a detailed analysis of Zedsen modelling and simulation tests.

Tim Westwood

Tim Westwood

DPhil Research Scientist

Tim graduated from Imperial College with both a BSc and an MSc in mathematics. He is currently studying for a DPhil at the University of Oxford. He develops software and the underlying algorithms used for image reconstruction, as well as investigating the fundamental physics behind Zedsen’s pioneering technology.

Mike Blunt

Mike Blunt

Senior Electronic Design Engineer

After serving with the Royal Navy, Mike began a successful career in electronics and electro-mechanical design. Mike brings great expertise to Zedsen with decades of experience working on high-end electronics in many disciplines including military and subsea. He has also completed pioneering design work on RFID readers and tags, subsea sensor control, along with R&D on various embedded control systems, medical sensors, test equipment and RF communications.
